Hey y’all!! It has been a busy week around our farm. We have gotten a lot of little stuff done. Lots of stuff that we don’t have finished yet but we will keep working hard to get it finished. Hope all is well this week! I couldn’t imagine why you wouldn’t be with this wonderful weather we have been having the past couple of days. I can’t wait to get out in my yard and get started on a few projects for the year. Eeeeeek…..the time changes this weekend and I can not wait for LOOOOONGER days. I’m so excited!!
Our seedlings are coming along fantastically!! They have exceeded my expectations on growth. Truly been amazed. Guess I need to get the lead out on a greenhouse for all these seedlings we have. I will have to do some transplanting before too long. Our second round of seeds came in but I haven’t had time to sow them yet. We ordered a few more vegetable seeds and some flowers. We ordered some that are supposed to repel mosquitos and some that attract butterflies and hummingbirds. Hopefully we will have good luck with those too!!
We worked in the yard this past weekend. We bought a brush cutter and man did that thing pay for itself the first day. I am certain we would still not be through clearing the fence row to this day if it weren’t for that. Best money spent so far. We got the corner posts bought. Just need to get the high tensil bought so we can get started. I think we got a pretty good dent in cleaning out where the fence will go. We will know more when we get started putting it up. We did get a chance to get the tractor and bush hog out while we were outside. Got one lane cut and started to sink a little so I decided that it would be best to back all the way out and not chance getting stuck. I don’t think we could have gotten anything in there to get the tractor out if we did.
Brandon and I started going through a bunch of old debris from where a greenhouse that my grandmother owned fell in years ago. There is so much CRAP! I don’t know if we will ever get it cleaned up ourselves. We have been thinking about hiring someone to clean it up and haul off all everything. We did find some cinder blocks that are all still good so we worked on getting those pulled up and in a pile so we can reuse them for something else. We think there is enough for another raised bed like the other two we have. I didn’t realize how much junk was in the woods on our property until we started trying to clean up for live stock. I think we would have enough stuff for a dump truck to haul off. We don’t want to leave it there because we think our animals may get hurt on some of it and we don’t want that to happen.
Brandon and Aaron tried laying out garden beds. We are trying to get an idea of how much dirt and compost we will need to fill them once we get them built. We intend to use raised beds. I know some people use the old fashioned way of growing their garden directly in the dirt but we think raised beds will work best for us. Maybe we can get that figured out before the weekend.
Brandon has been secretly working on a project for me. I had a solid concrete pig bench that was damaged in my house fire in 2014. I just put it in my shop because I really didn’t know were to start to refinish it. Little did I know Brandon had been working on it a little at a time. He got all the old paint cleaned off of it and started repainting it for me. I may or may not have cried. I’ll never tell. Lol! I know it’s just a concrete bench but my kids and I lost everything we owned to that fire so what few things were left I value very much. Even if it’s just a piece of concrete.
Wes had a science project that was due this week. He did a really good job on it! I have always said any kind of school projects are from the DEVIL!! They make me lose my religion 9 kinds of ways when I have to help with it. I question my sanity at the end of every one. Think they may take a few years off my life every time. I hope they don’t have any more projects any time soon. Aaron was nominated for Boys State this year. Really doesn’t surprise me since he is a smarty pants. He had to fill out paperwork for that and get it submitted and now we wait to see if he has been chosen to go. He continues to make us proud! Morgan has had some down time the past couple of weeks. Trying to keep her motivated to continue practice pitching while her coach tries to find another spot to practice. That is a long story in itself. Travel ball won’t start up until high school ball is over so right now we are waiting on Rec ball. She did get an offer for another travel team to play on while she waits for the Boom season to pick back up. We are still thinking about that option. Still no word on if Hampton Rec will have enough for a team. Both of my kids are ready to play ball and I am ready to watch!
We hope you continue to follow us on this adventure. Until next time……….
