We just recently started taking the necessary steps to start a farm on our property. I’m not real sure what we are thinking since we both have full time jobs and 3 children. Both of those keep us very busy. Guess we thought we could better use our spare time raising livestock and growing a garden. Lord knows I think we both have LOST our minds. Think we can safely blame it on the danged ole covid! That mess has single handedly made families stay at home and become hermits. Ugh! I also think it has made some folks have some extra kids to but not these folks. We know how to prevent that. We to old for any little ones. Ha ha!!
We have received what I think is record snow fall this past week that has caused us to have to work from home. It got me to thinking that we might need to start a blog. Start documenting some of the things that we are doing around here that might help other. We are ALL over this freaking snow. It is keeping us from making the improvements that we are wanting to make. If I have to stay home one more day I might just sign myself into the crazy house.
So far we have made ourselves a little binder to write down any hopes and dreams we have for our farm. Made listed of vegetables we want to grow. Lists of livestock we are interested in raising. Watched countless You Tube videos in hopes that we will make ourselves smart in the long run. We have written our business plan. We have applied for a farm number. Made a spread sheet to forecast what we think our profit and debt will be. My husband is working on our website. We have talked to our lawyer about how to have our produce and meats certified USDA inspected. Lord I know there are other things I have left out that we have done but that about covers it. No when I say “WE” I really mean my husband. I’m not real tech savvy when it comes to a lot of the stuff that has gotten done so far. I always tell him he is a genius! He always disagrees – insert eye roll. Wouldn’t be able to figure any of this out without him. We still don’t have any livestock and vegetables growing but we are getting there. We hope to have a green house soon. Stick around!!
We will be a first generation farm that. With hopes that our kids will continue in our foot steps! Join our family on our adventure……………
