Helloooooo y’all!!

We worked on a lot of things over the past week.  Had really nice weather to be outside.  Anyone else happy that this time of year is finally here?  I would say it is my favorite!!

I mowed part of the yard.  The grass inside the dog fence always grows way faster than the rest of the yard.  I figured I would go on and mow it before my poor ole bassett got lost in all the grass.  Her belly was dragging.  Poor short legged puppy dog.  Bless her!  Did some weed killing on the fence row.  We try to clean the fence row clear of weeds and grass and have to spray every couple of weeks.

Made a flower planter out of an old pallet.  I found a picture of one online that looked really pretty so we had some old pallets and decided to put them to use.  What looked like a simple project turned out to be a little more time consuming that I originally thought.  But we got it done and it’s sitting in my yard waiting on the seeds to sprout!

Set a pile of brush on fire and it didn’t burn exactly like we wanted to.  Got to use our new blow torch.  It was pretty nifty!  Some of it was kind of green but figured since it was so small it would have burned any way. So that was kind of a disappointment.

Marked 2 of the corners of our property with T-posts and painted them orange.  The property was surveyed years ago when it was first bought from my grandmother but the corners never got marked with anything other than the pin that the surveyor put in the ground.  It got buried under dirt and debris over the years.  Thankfully I have connections to someone who can survey.  If you ever need one I can hook you up!

Got the tractor stuck.  Again.  Ugh.   No wait……it was buried.  One front tire was completely covered and there was mud up to the frame.  I would say the ground basically fell out from under the tractor.  We had to leave it out there overnight.  Which we were both totally against but what else where we gonna do.  It was 8 pm and ran out of ideas to get it out.  If you don’t have a fabulous babysitter then I suggest you get one.  They have been in our lives since my daughter was 4 months old.  They are like family.  I say that to say this…..her husband offered to wench it out if we didn’t have any luck getting it out ourselves.  Went back out there that afternoon and the tractor had sank into the ground further.  So it was buried up past the frame a little.  I made the call and I can’t tell you how much we appreciate the help because we would have NEVER gotten it out.  Thank goodness for help!

Brandon has been doing some figuring on how much supplies we need to make our raised garden beds and a greenhouse.  I’m excited about the greenhouse!!  Guess I have always enjoyed fiddling around with plants but never to the extent that I thought I might possibly want or need a greenhouse someday.  All of our garden seeds have sprouted!  For the most part, they all look really good.  We have a few that got to leggy and not sure if they will make it.  We did start transplanting last weekend.  We still have some that need to be transplanted so hopefully we can get to that this week.  We decided to use plastic cups to transplant into in hopes that we can reuse them.  That will be one less expense we will have the next year. We moved them out of the house and onto the porch so they could get some fresh air and natural sunlight.  Our house just isn’t big enough to keep the plants indoors anymore.  I am hoping we will get started on building the greenhouse within the next week.  It is something we are going to try to build ourselves.

We made the decision that we want all the pine trees cut off our property and leave any hard wood trees we have.  That would open everything up and allow sun to shine in and hopefully grass to start growing.  We called a couple of logging companies to see if we could find anyone that would be interested in cutting a small lot.  Not many logging companies want to deal with such a small amount of land.  We don’t have a lot of good timber out there.  We aren’t looking to get rich off any of it.  We would rather get a little money for what is out there and not waste perfectly good trees for no reason.

I did reserve a spot for a family photo shoot for this weekend.  I do take random pictures and selfies of us and the kids but I am terrible when it comes to making an appointment with a professional.  It is supposed to rain the day of the photo shoot so my hair will be looking like a nappy mess.  Just my luck……..everyone else will be looking fabulous and I will look like I just rolled out of bed.

Not really much to update on the kids.  They are all out for Spring Break.  Aaron was at his mom’s part of the week and my kids have helped on the sitters farm while we were at work and will stay with their dad some.  We didn’t make any plans this year.  We are trying our best to to get things rolling on the farm.

We hope you continue to follow us on this adventure. Until next time………………………
